Lent is approaching.....
Maybe its a wake-up call. I always like the arrival of Lent...especially when it is early in the year...and the idea that Lent should be more about "doing more for others" rather than "giving something up" seems very nice. Wonder if that is what the Obama Administration is thinking as they presume that the best thing for the USA and the world is a whole lot of government spending...anyway, I hope everyone is looking forward to the beginning of Lent and has chosen some great ways to be mindful of the season. One thing I am going to try to do on a daily basis throughout Lent is to write a note to someone who I haven't heard from in awhile...and I am going to try to write the note and mail it...hopefully with some sort of grace-filled message...wish me luck. Our church also sent home some great ideas in the bulletin this week...one I can't wait to check out is a website called www.freerice.com that supposedly has a game you can play to help feed the hungry.
So, yesterday I went to a party and found this neat poem on the wall in one of the rooms at the house where the party was. The poem was called the Desiderata and it said "From the Old St. Paul's Church, Baltimore, Maryland 1692" I thought it was so cool that I sent myself a text so I could Google it later...well, to my surprise, there is a bit of history to the poem. Hit the link and see what you think...you never know what you don't know!

Already?
OK, so I can't believe that it is already February! And for that matter, I really can't believe that it is already 2009! Are you kidding me? Where did it all go? I have lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the wars that have been happening since that I guess we don't really have a name for...unless you like the term "GWOT (Global War on Terror). It's sad because I think when I was in 7th grade (1975) I figured, like a lot of people, that by now we would have flying cars, cancer would be cured, people all over the world would be able to understand each other regardless of native tongue, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. Not that we don't have cool stuf in 2009...don't get me wrong, I just wish that we could have gotten here without all the mindless stupitity that goes with progress.
So, my problem really is that 2009 is 1/12th finished and I haven't even balanced the checkbook and prepared my annual budget. I'll get right on that.
What are your goals for this year? Adding 200 friends to Facebook? I want to play at least 30 rounds of golf this year. January was a bust, so I know have to set my ambition on about 3 rounds per month...fore! Oh, but there is snow in tomorrow's forecast...

First
Well, it seems like a good idea to commence a blog for no better reason than to have a place to jot down some ideas where I might be able to find them later. So, this being the first entry, I suppose it should be short.
My first objective will be to learn how to use the tool...including the posting of pictures and links, as that is what seems to keep these things interesting.
Second objective will be to set some goals...so, I ambitiously set a goal of 100 readers by the end of 2009!
So, here's to my good old blog of mine...I hope it is fun.
